Strikeforce/M-1 Global Fedor-Werdum wrap up

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Finally back in the land of earthquakes and G20 riots after some well-spent time in California, where neither of those things ever occur.
For Heavy.com, I analyzed Fabricio Werdum’s chances of pulling off the upset. I also did an exclusive feature for Heavy.com on my time spent with Fedor Emelianenko.
Finally, post-fight, I snagged some time with [...]

The Rashad Evans-Quinton Jackson bout for UFC 114 has been hyped to epic proportions, thanks to the rivalry between the two men that has lasted nearly a year in the media. Check out my column on FoxSports.com to see my analysis:

UFC 113 & The News

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

An epic rematch between undefeated Lyoto Machida and legend Shogun Rua is slated for the May 8th UFC show in Montreal, but further down on the undercard, local fighter Jonathan Goulet will also compete. Unfortunately, due to a complex series of issues, his coach will not be in his corner. I spoke with Goulet’s trainer. [...]

Be sure to check out my feature on Zahabi MMA in the April issue of FIGHT! magazine. It features interviews with Georges St. Pierre, Kenny Florian, David Loiseau and many others.

New Lease

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Last week, ESPN: The Magazine did a great feature on former NFL conditioning coach Marv Marinovich working with MMA star BJ Penn. What Marv is infamous for is the strict diet and fitness routine he pushed on his son Todd. While Todd Marinovich excelled in college football, his pro career for the Oakland Raiders was [...]

Super Zahabi Brothers

Friday, March 26th, 2010

One of the growing stars in the world of MMA coaching is Montreal-based Firas Zahabi. Last year alone he worked with many top guys including Dennis Kang, Jerome LeBanner–not to mention the usual suspects like Georges St. Pierre, who has a fight this Saturday against British contender Dan Hardy at UFC 111.
Here’s a short feature [...]

Call it a comeback

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Like many MMA fans, I was mystified when purple belt Mackens Semerzier submitted third degree black belt Wagnney Fabiano via triangle choke at WEC 43 in October of 2009. I was haunted by the mystery, and ventured to Grant Brothers MMA in North York to speak with the Nova União team member to find out [...]

Decade’s End

Friday, December 25th, 2009

So now we’re set for the last few days of the year. I’ve been so busy working on different projects that I rarely took the time to reflect; now that the year is drawing to a close, this might be the time to say something. After all, it’s pretty rare that I don’t have something [...]

Weekend In Review

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

This weekend, I made a road trip out to Montreal where I made a visit to the Tristar gym. Also, on Saturday night, I caught a local MMA show called the Mixed Fighting League. Sunday evening was capped by dinner with two-time UFC lightweight title challenger and co-host of ESPN’s MMA Live Kenny Florian.
Of course, [...]
