Do you remember the animated Disney feature film Tron from the 80’s? Believe it or not, although it became the butt of many jokes, it’s one of those films that gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling inside. Some audiences were befuddled because the computer technology and concepts pre-date the internet era that we currently live [...]

A couple of weeks ago, I went back to Kitchener-Waterloo to see my friend’s short film debut in a local festival.
As you might expect, the entries ranged from excellent to abysmal. One video had this annoying, neurotic couple arguing–and I realized that these people weren’t actually acting, they were just showing another side to themselves. [...]

The debut issue of VIE Magazine features an interview that I did with acclaimed director Deepa Mehta. Sitting down for tea in her comfortable Annex home was quite the experience. We spoke at length on her latest film, Heaven on Earth, as well as her other experiences in both life and film making.

The story of Lillo Brancato being sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a botched robbery that claimed the life of an off-duty policeman is making headlines. It’s major news, partly because he’s a celebrity who starred in feature films and the television series The Sopranos–but this event has special implications because [...]

Disliked by many, known by few. Paulie Malignaggi is a character first and a champion second. I first read about him in a Thomas Hauser article from 2006. Here’s a great documentary in nine parts that shows more of his history, as well as the leadup to his first title challenge against Miguel Cotto.

Here’s a wonderful clip where composer Vangelis discusses how he created the score for Chariots of Fire. His inspirational soundtrack very nearly missed being placed in the film; everyone knows that the inclusion of the title track was pivotal in the film’s success.
As for the gripping finale, you get that demonstration of pure heart, “He’s got [...]

I went to see writer Mark Leyner and John Cusack speak last night about their new film War, Inc. I missed the advance screening, and was lucky to get into the packed room. They were running late, had only had 20-30 minutes to talk, and little information was disseminated.
On the plus side, I found a great [...]

I ask whether he feels any sense of guilt for having beaten Vicky and his other wives. “If you had a girl and she was beautiful and other people were trying to invite her out and seduce her, wouldn’t you get angry?” he says.
“That’s the thing. I saw these obvious jerks and schmucks coming [...]

I just finished watching The Deer Hunter. I kind of draw this parallel with certain friends, the way time has separated us, and life has just sort of taken us down our respective roads.
After all the years pass, are we still going to recognize each other? Will we be intact emotionally? What hopes and dreams will be [...]
